New officials have been sworn-in to lead the Nigerian Chapter of the International Press Institute (IPI Nigeria) for the next three years.

The newly elected leaders are Musikilu Mojeed (President); Fidelis Mbah (Deputy President); Ahmed Shekarau (General Secretary); Yomi Adeboye (Assistant General Secretary); Tobi Soniyi (Lagal Adviser) and Rafatu Salami (Treasurer).

The swearing-in ceremony followed a peaceful election conducted on Thursday, the final day of the 2024 Annual Conference/AGM of IPI Nigeria held at Abuja Continental Hotel (formerly Sheraton Hotels).

While the Conference was chaired by the Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, the AGM and Election had member of IPI Nigeria’s BOT Sir Folu Olamiti as chairman.

The Minister said that despite its challenges, press freedom remains robust in Nigeria.

He reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to the observance of press freedom and the protection of civic space.

Idris pointed at the proliferation of print, broadcast and digital media across the country as testimonials to the free reign of press freedom.

He, however, appealed for the balancing of the exercise of freedom with due observance of responsibilities.

The President, Musikilu Mojeed appealed to members of IPI Nigeria to demonstrate stronger commitment by ensuring participation in its activities.

The International Press Institute (IPI), is the global network of Editors, Media Executives, Communication Scholars, Senior Journalists and experts in the communication industry on press freedom.
